Blog Entry # 11

The reviews that Professor Holmes writes on our papers are very helpful to me when I need to work on my writing skills. I feel like the things that she writes are very clear and easily to understand. The one thing that really stands out to me after reading some of the reviews that I have is that I seem to make all my sentences to wordy. This has constantly been a problem for me because it comes up in every paper that I have wrote and got comments back on it. Grammar seems to be the second biggest thing that I really need work on, I have a lot of punctual errors and need to be better in catching these problems. Something that I didn’t know about myself was that I seem to not be as clear in my writing as I should be. This I feel like was something that I did well. One review that stood out to me was that my paper seemed to be too personal; this is something that is hard for me not to do because when writing I feel like I have to incorporate some personal thought into the paper. A key comment that I got was that I need more support for the different points that I make in my paper. This is something that I must work on the next time I write and make sure I give enough evidence and support in the writing. Sounding to conversational is another comment that I must work on, setting a different tone in my paper and sounding more scholarly.

I also have a problem of being too wordy when I write. I usually have a professor or peer read my work before I turn it in to make sure that my sentences make sense and that i stay on track
